Tires are the only point of contact between your vehicle and the road, making them extremely important. However, they’re often a neglected component of our cars. Many don’t realize the importance of having a dedicated set of tires for winter weather, which can make tackling the colder months potentially hazardous. Read on to learn more about the benefits of winter tires.
Superior traction in winter weather
Winter tires have special tread patterns that improve performance in cold, wet, and snowy conditions. They greatly reduce the likelihood of getting stranded because of inclement weather and enhance your vehicle’s grip on the road when the weather turns ugly.
Exceptional durability in the cold
Winter tires are also made of special rubber that remains durable when the temperature drops. Even with no snow on the ground, all-season tires tend to underperform when temperatures drop to around freezing. Winter tires, on the other hand, are specially designed to retain superior grip on the road despite cold temperatures.
Better braking power
It’s important for a vehicle to be able to stop on short notice, especially in the winter. Winter tires handle abrupt stops on slippery roads exceptionally well, to help minimize the likelihood of a collision.
While an extra set of tires may seem like an unnecessary expense, buying winter tires is much cheaper than repairing a car that’s been damaged from driving in snowy conditions with the wrong type of tires. Come in to Haddad Nissan today to ask more about our winter tire specials; we’ll be glad to help you find the right tires for your vehicle.
Winter is just getting started and the Berkshires are looking more and more welcoming every day. The scenic views and relaxing setting create an ambiance that few places in the world can match, so without further ado here are a few reasons to visit the Berkshires this winter from us here at Haddad Nissan.
Skiing and Snowboarding
Hitting the slopes is a common occurrence at the Berkshires, which is home to six of our state’s 12 skiing areas. Powder production is already in full swing at many of the larger resorts, and more is sure to follow. That leaves plenty of options for skiers and snowboarders looking for some early winter action.
The Notchview Reservation consists of more than 3,000 acres of land, making it a perfect location for cross-country skiing. Long trails and snowshoeing locations make for an all-encompassing winter wonderland for those looking to stay active, even if it means heading out into the cold.
If you’re looking to get a good look at art housed in some of the world’s best museums, you’re in luck. The Berkshires is home to the Clark and Norman Rockwell Museums, or those looking for something new will likely find it in the Schantz Galleries in Stockbridge.
One of the latest new conveniences of the automotive world are remote starters. At first, it may seem like they only provide a minor convenience boost, but we’ve found they are one of the most popular features among our customers at Haddad Nissan. That’s why this month during YESvember we’ve got some great deals on them (they make great early Christmas gifts!). There are plenty of benefits of a remote starter. Here are a few:
- Comfort: Isn’t it nice to be able to hop in your car in the winter and enjoy the warmth right from the get-go? That’s just one of the benefits of a remote starter, and we promise you’ll never get tired of it.
- Safety: Warming up the car has the added advantage of making it easier to scrape or defrost the windows, improving your visibility and safety in snowy conditions.
- Engine Care: Warming up your engine for a minute or two before heading out is useful as it allows the motor oil to become more viscous and provide more lubrication.
- Resale Value: Being able to include a remote starter with your car can significantly increase its resale value, especially if you live in a snowy region.
The cold weather is getting closer and closer, so it’s time to start winterizing your car. This is an important part of staying safe while driving, so if you’re not sure how to do it, here are some tips to get your car ready for winter.
Your car has to work a little harder in the winter, so before the cold hits, get a tune up and make sure things are in working order. Check your battery, your antifreeze levels, your brakes, and your tire tread and air pressure. Pay special attention to your tires. If the tread getting low, pre-winter is definitely the time to have those replaced. And cold air can make your tire pressure low, so you should check it regularly and refill them when necessary.
It’s also a good time to make sure your heater is still working right, so you don’t go to turn on your defrost when the first frost hits and then realize your windows aren’t defrosting.
Follow oil change and routine maintenance rules closely. You want your vehicle to be as healthy as possible in winter!
