Nissan’s Self-Driving Technology Becomes Available in UK
For the past few years, automakers have been scrambling to be the first one on the market to introduce self-driving technology. However, a lot of brands have resolved to team up with ride-hailing services due to the expensive nature of autonomous driving. However, it seems Nissan will be the first-ever manufacturer to offer a new self-driving option on a production vehicle as soon as this year.
Considering big names like Ford weren’t even planning to have self-driving vehicles on the road until at least 2020, Nissan’s self-driving technology is a big deal. The option will be available on the 2017 Qashqai in the UK market for a relatively small additional fee of £1,500 or, in USD, about $1,910. The system in the Qashqai will be called the ProPILOT and is the first of three different versions that will roll out across Nissan’s lineup in the next four years.
The next version of ProPILOT, Highway Pilot, is coming next year in 2018 and will provide features like the ability to switch lanes and pass other cars, while the third version, Intercity Pilot, will be able to drive autonomously in urban areas. This new self-driving option is a major step toward technology and innovation in Nissan’s lineup and is very exciting to experts and enthusiasts everywhere.
The Haddad Nissan team is very excited about Nissan’s progress towards autonomous vehicles!
